BFA: Status

 

Physical exhibition

Exhibition layout (what goes where): everything resolved

Treatment for give-away area: done

Vocabulary of display units and number of units of each type required: have system, but need to determine count

Construction of display units and prototypes: done and in the works

Free-standing wire unit – how installed in gallery; will contact technical director/3rd year student

Entrance/title wall treatment: need fully resolve what form it will take

Confirm work to be included from each year level and display strategy on units: will practice on thursday in senior show to see how people will want to display

Color palette and how it will be applied to identify each year level: have four colors but need to figure this out

Strategy and design for labels, project descriptions, and identification of year levels: need to figure this out.

Form to be filled out electronically in advance out for labels and website: Name, project, dimensions, media, small description (if nesc), URLs and e-mails

Project descriptions: to be generated by design team

 

Publicity

Posters: Printing this weekend

Publicity

MRV developing splash page ("postcard"). Will discuss with Augusto and get up right away.

 

Online Exhibition

Will figure out simple approach to site that will align with physicial exhibition concept and be easy to produce

 

Physical exhibition (3-d)

Determine display unit sizes, materials and construction method (Nick Rodriguez as consultant): Need to figure out who will help.

Need to figure out on plan view approximate size/footprint of widgets.

Make spreadsheet with widget configurations, sizes and quantities

How work will be hung on "widgets" discussed

Kate has gathered inventory of projects but still needs to fill in missing info

Backside of widgets to be used for "point at it" material

Hanging strategies for different types of projects: easy. Magnets and other ways of attaching work

Label will be used to identify year levels

Design lighting strategy: (light at center; dimmer around perimeters): Focus lights toward center; create spots around perimeters. Kit of parts with different lighting

Strategy for identifying work: Needs to be figured out

 

2-D exhibition elements

Exhibition title treatments: Typeforms based on widgets in development move into more quirky and fun; MK’s photos. MFA 2s will coordinate with Kat on approaches

Design and materials strategy for identifying year levels, didactics, and curatorial statement treatment

Determine label content (where/how will be gathered) and design, including printing method. blow-up at kinkos? (only thing on wall?) special widget with projection; on reading rail. MFA 2s will figure out

 

Pinterest of physical exhibition design. Everyone is invited to add examples.

BFA Decisions

Undergrad show title! If____ then_____

BFA show will have a voculary of display units that can be used in different ways to show different types of work

Gathering work: Following reviews people bring work to gallery

Returning work: Must be picked up on Saturday; work not picked up goes to flat file storage (and may be lost, so arrange for pick-up)

De-install team: BFA 3s + BFA Design Team

 

MFA Decisions

Grad show title: Point at it: Lenses of Intention or (Lenses of Intent)

MFA show will use viewing direction to indicate year-level of work; "widget" will contain work

 

Group Decisions

URL: gdshow2012.calarts.edu

Grad/undergrad publicity: Will be handled seperately with some exceptions: e-blasts, press release, splash page

Grad/undergrad budget: each gets $2k

Four available iPads will be shared

Guards for show: Sign-up sheet for show for each room or doors will be shut.

Closing time/day: Show open on graduation day til ‘4

De-install dates: Saturday following graduation
